News Internship
The Experience
My internship at 770 WABC-AM ran for the Summer of 2024 starting May 13th, and it wasn't just getting people coffee, I was doing real work. As the News Intern I worked under Noam Laden and James Flippin. They taught me how to operate in a real newsroom. I've written 200 articles for the webpage you can find all of them here, I've interviewed people for the digital side to pair with the articles and even recorded newscasts for 107.1 WLIR-FM. Below you can find a small sample of work I did throughout my time at the internship.
During my time at 77 WABC I've recorded and edited dozens of newscast for their Long Island station, 107.1 WLIR-FM.

What I learned
I learned how to work with the news cycle in real time and the importance of being timely on a story and get high quality content out in time, without rushing it and sacrificing the quality of the work. Throughout my experience I also worked with iHeartMedia's 24/7 News Source and learned how to create newscasts using audio and how to track audio down. This internship has supported my passion for journalism and radio and furthered my belief that this is what I want to do for a living.
Reflection
Before I started my internship at 77 WABC I laid out some goals for myself. I wanted to learn more about writing for the ear rather than the eyes, develop skills to write news content for visual digestion for the WABC website and learn to adapt to rapid changes, meet tight deadlines, and collaborate efficiently with team members to deliver high-quality journalistic content. During my time at 77 I worked closely with co-workers Noam Laden (News Director), James Flippin (Anchor) and Lizzie Rattoballi (Anchor/Social Media) who helped me meet all of these goals. Whether it be meeting tight deadlines to get stories on the website for Noam or knocking out some WLIR newscasts for James or working closely with Liz to shoot social media videos, this team helped me reach all my goals.
